“You are enough. You are everything.” This is about as direct as anything I’ve written, and I think it earns that directness by refusing to hedge it with a story, a character, or any narrative distance that might soften the claim into something easier to argue with. It’s an anthem, in the plainest sense of that word, about releasing people who plainly aren’t willing to love you back the way you deserve, and holding onto the ones who genuinely are, stated without much poetic decoration around the edges. Sometimes, I think, the most useful thing a song can actually do for someone isn’t to be clever or layered with meaning that rewards repeated listening. It’s simply to say a true, necessary thing plainly enough that a person going through something difficult can borrow the words directly, word for word, at a moment when they can’t yet locate their own. I don’t think every song needs to work this way. But I think this one, specifically, needed to.
