Another Life Another Day

Verse 1
There stood an old greenhouse
At the bottom of the lawn,
We’d talked about removing it,
Its useful days seemed gone.
So I put a little notice up,
To give the thing away,
Never thinking it was waiting
For another life, another day.

Verse 2
Then Jaymie-Lee came calling,
With a good friend by her side,
They looked around the greenhouse,
Then they stepped themselves inside.
They took the panes out carefully,
And stacked the frame away,
To build it somewhere else again,
For another life, another day.

Chorus
Nothing has to disappear
Just because we let it go,
Somewhere there’s another garden,
Something waiting there to grow.
What has finished here can travel,
What seems old can find a way,
To begin beneath another sun,
Another life, another day.

Verse 3
Piece by piece they took it down,
The glass, the door, the frame,
The place where summer tomatoes grew
Would never look the same.
There was something rather lovely
As they carried it away,
An ending in one garden,
A beginning on its way.

Verse 4
Soon there’ll be another corner,
Where that old greenhouse will stand,
Put together piece by piece again,
By someone else’s hands.
There’ll be seedlings on the shelving,
Drops of rain upon each pane,
And when the spring comes round once more,
It’ll all begin again.

Chorus
Nothing has to disappear
Just because we let it go,
Somewhere there’s another garden,
Something waiting there to grow.
What has finished here can travel,
What seems old can find a way,
To begin beneath another sun,
Another life, another day.

Bridge
We spend our years collecting,
Then one day we understand,
We only hold things for a while
Before they change their hands.
And sometimes letting something go
Isn’t losing it at all,
It’s giving it another spring,
Another chance to stand tall.

Final Verse
Now there’s space down in the garden
Where the greenhouse used to be,
And somewhere there’s a greenhouse
Starting out without me.
I hope the sun shines through its glass,
I hope things grow that way,
And I’m glad we didn’t throw it out—
We gave it one more day.

Final Chorus
Nothing has to disappear
Just because we let it go,
Somewhere there’s another garden,
Something waiting there to grow.
Some things aren’t really endings,
They’re beginnings on their way—
Just an old greenhouse travelling
To another life, another day.

Outro
Another garden,
Another spring,
Another life,
Another day.
